Next Version of Android: F to Froyo

Following the line put the name of a dessert for each version of Mr. Andro Erick Tseng - Senior Product Manager of Android - said the next version will be the Froyo or frozen yogurt. The staff was betting on Flan for dessert with F.

Only it was not clear if this will be the version 2.x or 3.x

The current versions are Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6) and Eclair (2.0). I'm waiting for version 2.0 for the G1, I hope they can make it run with 192 MB of RAM. This sure Eclair already pledged to the Magic that has versions with 192 and 288 MB of RAM.

I am currently using version 1.6 of Android ROM with Cyanogen Mod 4.2.13 and more Theme MarksTheme, which leaves appeared and functions very similar to what I have seen in 2.0, but some failures and some plugins are still making me missing .

Google Maps Navigation outside the U.S.

The Google Navigation is a free browser that can do something that neither Tomtom or Garmin managed to do so soon, to show the path using the photos of the path itself. This has a browser that uses Street View, the idea is so good that a few hours after the announcement, the shares of both have had absurd drops of 16% (Garmin) and 21% (TomTom).

But Google has locked using the Navigation function in Google Maps on Android for anyone outside the U.S., nothing that the people at XDA can not solve. They put two versions available for those who want to try this super system, one for those who have root access and another for those without such access.

maps3.3.1-directions-by-the-root-2.apk (2.27 MB) or maps3.3.1-by-directions-root-2.apk (2.27 MB) ( the android-Tip hilfe.de )

To install the root is more complicated because you must uninstall and then install the Maps that changed with the commands:

adb remount

adb shell find / system / data-name \ * google \ * maps.apk \ *-o-name-delete Maps.apk

adb uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps

adb install-r-directions maps3.3.1-by-root-2.apk

adb reboot

Since the version-root installs in one second but this Maps folder (com.google.android.apps.m4ps) or they changed the maps by m4ps. I installed it this way so often keep updating the Maps and the first time I called the Navigation function he asked me to decide what I would use, then store and use marked for always m4ps.

Nav Launcher

Ready after we have released Navigation Nav Launcher install which is available in Market, is a simple screen with options to find a destination. Contacts appear only in your Google contacts that have registered address.

Another way to use it directly within the Navigation Maps, where it was now possible to set up a route can also ask to use the Navigation Route.

But not all flowers, in my tests it did not work in Portuguese, but it worked in English and German. Another problem is that Street View is not yet available either here or in Germany and in Brazil, so you can use it only on the map with satellite photos.

Still want to test it some more because without Street View he seems weaker than CoPilot Live, which despite being expensive has the maps offline.

PS

People! get the latest version 4.0 of the navigation maps for Brazil. Just install:

For those who have root, http://ul.to/cle2zs/maps4.0.0-1.6-brut3.apk

For those who do not have root access, http://ul.to/al55qq/maps4.0.0-1.6-brut3-nonroot.apk (4.0.0)

It's better than the version previously available ... 3.3.0.1. Now you can do the "pinch and zoom" (zoom with multi touch) and also save as a favorite!

How to capture the screen of Android Phones (or Printscreen Screenshot)

snap20091107_190239 snap20091107_190303 I need to reinstall a lot of the programs I have on my phone, and so I had to assemble a list of installed applications. I'll just go to the blog, commenting on the best application. To do so must first be able to capture the mobile screen.

I found some ways to do this:

  1. Via SDK Site following the hint esferaandroid.com or www.simplehelp.net
  2. With the application screenshot-application as found on the site koushikdutta.com
  3. Or the application ShootMe certainly the most convenient way.

With the screenshot application set-up a time and then the machine is making images at this time. It makes the images ShootMe if the device is shaken for about 5 seconds. Just activate the program and then when you want an image shake the device accelerometer that enables the program, you can hear when the image is made. The images are saved on the SD card in the "ShootMe." One example is the picture of this post, click to enlarge.

Tutorial Cyanogen Mod update and change the Theme CMUpdate

After applying the Android 1.6 Flash & CyanogenMod as the previous post we can update the system and also change the theme very easily just install the CyanogenMod Updater Android Market or you can download the application site.

The application is very easy to use and very efficient, by downloading and installing updates and issues. But before it work properly you must set it right.

Settings

Notifications

In Notifications is possible to define the frequency at which it will automatically check for updates and how it will warn you (tap or vibrate)

Rom Update Settings

Here it is possible to see the mark of Cyanogen Vercoe l'adresse if you want to risk testing them. The server may be pre-configured otherwise enter the address:

http://cyanogen-updater.googlecode.com/files/update_file.json

Theme Update Setting

The server issues have to be configured, at least for me it did not work automatically. Then go to "Manage Servers Theme" then click on Menu and choose "Update Servers Featured Theme" ready now it will pull all available themes.

Advanced Settings

Here we have the option to change the folder where the files are saved in the SD (cm-updates is the default), you can also clear this folder.

2 Program

The program is divided into three tabs with the first update of the ROM, with the second and third themes with the file that are saved in the cm-card updates. You can also download the files from your computer to that folder and apply to the program.

At the moment I'm testing the theme MarksTheme 4.2.3.1.e which is very interesting but I had to increase the number of screens 3 (default) to 5, you can increase up to 10 pages but do not want to have both programs or widgets.

Manual to get root on the G1 phone with Android (1.6 or 2.0)

From version 1.6 1click root system does not work if your Smartphone is in any previous version skip to item 3.2 below.

I updated my phone to version 1.6 to decide where I wanted it a little more, and from this version is a little more complicated to obtain root privileges and can install modified versions of Android such as CyanogenMod .

To follow this manual recommend at least a basic knowledge of Linux alias without it I would not advise putting the phone in Root because it will be much easier to damage the unit. I'm not responsible for the procedures below, I followed the manual and I'll show worked for me but I could have lost the device if anything went wrong.

But what are the advantages of this process:

  1. the limitation of the official version only allow the installation of programs in internal memory that was in my case 60MB, with the latest versions of CyanogenMod programs go directly to the SD since it has an ext2 or ext3.
  2. The possibility of a partition using a Linux-SWAP
  3. Be able to provide internet device (tethering) to your computer or laptop via USB Wifi
  4. And much more see the list http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567610

Of course there are disadvantages such automatic updating is turned off but for that we already own Cyanogen an application that makes the upgrade from them.

1-DOWNGRADE

So let's start first of all you need to do a downgrade to version 1.0, ie the phone will return the original form before the updates, this procedure will also be necessary if we are to remove the root privileges and have access to again automatic updates direct from Google.

Here I had two paths or two manuals is much like an easier and one that worked . The easiest basically do not need the GoldCard. I advise you to first try to make this straightforward procedure if the author was able to work with you and maybe save a few steps, Manual own Cyanogem GoldCard not speak anything.

In both cases we must first file DREAIMG.nbg RC29 (U.S.) [Link1] [Link2] if you have an American or appliance RC7 (UK) [Link1] [Link2] if you have a European machine, unzip the file and place DREAIMG.nbh the file on your MicroSD card from your G1. Do not rename the file, the file name has to be DREAIMG.nbh

The procedure without GoldCard just turn off your phone, press and hold the button to take photo and power button.

Bootloader It will connect recovery mode, in my case I received the error message 00028002 (not allow) and return to this screen the rainbow. I have checked this message and found that it meant that my CID was wrong, this error also happened to me once with GoldCard but I think I must have made a mistake when copying the number of CID, for the second time it worked. In the comments of the manual also has a user who received an error message but simply formatting the SD and putting the file DREAIMG.nbh work, is a possibility.

To exit this screen you can dial by pressing the + Menu + End, in my case I was obliged to take out the battery and USB cable because this combination was not working.

Downgraden_2 Downgraden_1 If it works will appear next to those two screens, the first asking to push the power button to start the process. Be careful not to be without your cell phone battery as this procedure can be that would ruin the device. If managed istalar will not need to mount the GoldCard, and the device will be in version 1.0.

Syncing Outlook with Google and the Android Caledar

Finally an official way to sync Outlook with the company's Google Calendar on my phone. I've used some programs to do this, but the latter stopped working when the company upgraded to Office 2007.
With the free tool from Google Calendar Sync you can sync Outlook with Google Calendar even in Android smartphones (like T-Mobile G1 or Vodafone HTC Magic).
The tool works on Windows XP and Windows Vista and works with both Outlook 2003 and the 2007. You can download Google Calendar Sync here.
Once you have downloaded the program comes with the data from your Google account and select the 2-Way Sync to sync both accounts.
Tip of the site www.go-android.de

PS As detailed in the post:
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft responds with warning about bug in the tool is better to update the application, although I have not had problems.

Review HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) with Google's new Android phone

thumbnail
Finally released the new phone with Google's Android operating system here in Germany a few months after U.S. release.
Some time ago I was looking to buy a Smartphone, but I did not want to be an Apple iPhone.
My first impressions are very good, especially in relation to hardware, I can say that:
- It is beautiful, especially the black
- The keyboard is comfortable to type.
- Does not seem to be very sensitive to risk, alias comes with a plastic to protect the screen and a little bag.
- The screen is about the same size as the iPhone, lacking only a few mm, the resolution is good, and touch works very well.
- To aid navigation still have the scroll.
- The camera is great, 3.2MP high focus.
- Bluetooth is stereo (although I will buy a headset for it)
- The only thing I did not like was the position of the headset, as connected with them is bad typing.

Now with regard to the new Android operating system I think the numbering is wrong, this version should not be here but the 1.1 (0.alguma thing), has many things that are still unfinished, but it will greatly improve in the next months, the major flaws:
- Has no way to turn off the internet, it downloads and even with no applications running and apparently disconnected with the update.
- No task manager, so it is not possible to know what is running.
- Still does not support bluetooth stereo
- No bookmark in the browser, but Chrome is better than the native Opera.
But some things surprised me, as:
- Integration with my Google account, it brought my calendar and contacts automatically, and now I have Gmail contacts who were in the Sim-Card.
- Changing the photo of the contact in Gmail (website) this picture appears when the person calls you. Directly it is not possible for the photo on contact.
- Quantity of good and free programs in the Android Market.
- Looks very pretty, with transition effects and transparency.
- Very fast in responding to any command.
- Intuitive, but it is necessary to learn what changes are made when you click the item and if he has clicked, including being able to copy and paste with ease.

For now it is, I'll test the programs that I downloaded and put a summary in the next few days.

Testing the posting directly from G1

This is only a test to see if you can, post directly from my new smartphone, the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream).
The keyboard until it is not bad, but I still need to get used to typing on a keyboard so small.
At least now I have no more excuses for not posting.
