Next Version of Android: F for Froy

Following the line to put the name of a dessert for each version of Mr. Andro Erick Tseng - Senior Product Manager of Android - reported that the next version will be the Froy or frozen yogurt. The staff was betting on Flan for dessert with F.

Only it was not clear whether this will be the version 2.x or 3.x

The current versions are Cupcake (1.5), Donut (1.6) and Eclair (2.0). I'm waiting for version 2.0 for the G1, I hope they can make it run with 192 MB of RAM. This certainly already pledged to Eclair Magic which has versions with 192 and 288 MB of RAM.

Currently I'm using version 1.6 of Android with the ROM Cyanogen Mod 4.2.13 Theme MarksTheme and more, which leaves appeared and functions very similar to what I have seen in 2.0, but some flaws and some plugins are still making me missing .

Navigation Google Maps outside the U.S.

The Google Navigation is a free browser that can do one thing or the Tomtom or Garmin could do so soon, show the path using the photo's own way. This has a browser that uses Street View, the idea is so good that a few hours after the announcement, the shares of both have had falls absurd, 16% (Garmin) and 21% (TomTom).

But Google has caught using the Navigation function in Google Maps Android to anyone outside the U.S., anything that the people at XDA can not solve. They put two versions available for those who want to test this super system, a who has access to Root and another for those without such access.

maps3.3.1-by-directions-no-root-2.apk (2.27 MB) or maps3.3.1-by-directions-root-2.apk (2.27 MB) ( Tip of the android-hilfe.de )

To install the root is more complicated because you need to uninstall and then install the Maps that changed with the commands:

adb remount

adb shell find / system / data-name \ * google \ maps.apk * \ *-o-name-delete Maps.apk

adb uninstall com.google.android.apps.maps

adb install-r-directions maps3.3.1-by-root-2.apk

adb reboot

A version-root installs in one second but the Maps folder (com.google.android.apps.m4ps) or they changed the maps by m4ps. So I installed it this way usually keep updating the maps and the first time they called the Navigation function he asked me to decide what I would use, then scored to remember and always use the m4ps.

Nav Launcher

Navigation ready after we have released Nav Launcher install which is available at the Market, is a simple screen with options to find a destination. Contacts appear only in your Google contacts who have registered address.

Another way to use it directly within the Navigation Maps, where it was possible to construct a route now we can also ask to use the Navigation on Rota.

But things are difficult, in my tests it did not work in Portuguese, but it worked in English and German. Another problem is that Street View is not yet available either here or in Germany and in Brazil, so you can use it only on the map with satellite photos.

I still want to test it some more because without Street View it seems weaker than the CoPilot Live, which despite being expensive has the maps offline.

PS

Personal! get the latest version 4.0 of navigation maps for Brazil. Just install:

For anyone who has root, http://ul.to/cle2zs/maps4.0.0-1.6-brut3.apk

For those who do not have root access, http://ul.to/al55qq/maps4.0.0-1.6-brut3-nonroot.apk (4.0.0)

It's better than the version previously available ... 3.3.0.1. Now you can do the pinch and zoom (zoom with multi touch) and also save as favorites!

How to capture the screen of Android Phones (Printscreen or Screenshot)

snap20091107_190239 snap20091107_190303 I need to reinstall a good part of the programs I have on my phone, and it had to assemble a list of installed applications. I will take to get to the blog, commenting on the best application. To do so must first get a screen capture of Mobile.

I found some ways to do this:

  1. Via SDK taking a cue from site esferaandroid.com or www.simplehelp.net
  2. With the application screenshot-application as found on the site koushikdutta.com
  3. Or with the application ShootMe certainly the most practical way.

With the screenshot-application configures itself one time and then the unit is making images in this period. But the images do ShootMe if the device is shaken for about 5 seconds. Just activate the program and then when you want an image shake the accelerometer device that activates the program, it is possible to listen when the image is made. The images are saved on the SD card in the "ShootMe. An example are the images of this post, click to enlarge.

Tutorial update and change Cyanogen Mod Theme with CMUpdate

After applying the Android 1.6 Flash & CyanogenMod as the previous post we can update the system and also change the theme very easily just install the Updater CyanogenMod Android Market or you can download it from the site of application.

The application is very easy to use and very efficient, by downloading and installing updates and themes. But before his work properly you must set it right.

Settings

Notifications

In Notifications is possible to define the frequency at which it will automatically check for updates and how it will warn you (tap or vibrate)

Rom Update Settings

Here it is possible to see the mark of Cyanogen Vercoe experienced, if you want to risk testing them. The server must be pre-configured otherwise enter the address:

http://cyanogen-updater.googlecode.com/files/update_file.json

Theme Setting Update

The server issues have to be configured, at least for me it did not work automatically. Then go to "Manage Servers Theme" then click on Menu and select "Update Servers Featured Theme" done now it will pull all available themes.

Advanced Settings

Here we have the option to change the folder where the files are saved in the SD (cm-updates is the default), you can also clear this folder.

2 Program

The program is divided into three tabs with the first update to the ROMS, the second with the themes and the third with the file that are saved in the folder cm-updates of the card. You can also download computer files to that folder and apply to the program.

At the moment I am testing the theme MarksTheme 4.2.3.1.e which is quite interesting but I had to increase the number of screens 3 (default) to 5, you can increase up to 10 pages but does not pretend to have both programs or widgets.

    • * Dream (G1): signed-dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip
    • * Magic32A / Magic32B (MyTouch): See this site
  8. Press home to confirm and continue the installation
  9. WAIT - DO NOT RESTART YOUR UNIT NOW, HAVE PATIENCE.
  10. After finishing press again Alt-A (or select "apply any zip from sd)
    • * Dream (G1): 4.2.3.1-update-cm-signed.zip
    • * Magic32A / Magic32B (MyTouch): See this site
  11. Press home to confirm and continue the installation
  12. When complete, please reboot the device by pressing Home and Back (Back).

Manual to get root in cell G1 with Android (1.6 or 2.0)

From version 1.6 1click root system does not work if your Smartphone is in any previous version skip to item 3.2 below.

I updated my phone to version 1.6 for there to decide that I wanted a little more of it, and from this version is a bit more complicated to obtain root privileges and can install the modified versions of Android eg CyanogenMod .

To follow this manual recommend having at least a basic knowledge of Linux alias without it I would not advise putting the phone in Root, it will be much easier to damage the unit. I am not responsible for the following, I followed the manuals that will show and for me it worked but I could have lost the device if something went wrong.

But what are the advantages of this process:

  1. limiting the official version only allow you to install programs on internal memory in my case was 60MB, with the latest versions of programs CyanogenMod go directly to the SD since it has an ext2 or ext3.
  2. The possibility of using a partition-partition Linux SWAP
  3. Be able to provide the Internet appliance (tethering) to your computer or laptop via USB Wifi
  4. And much more see the list at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567610

Of course there are disadvantages for example the automatic update is off but for that we already own Cyanogen an application that makes the upgrade from them.

1-DOWNGRADE

So let's start first of all you must do a downgrade to version 1.0, or we will return the phone to original shape before the updates, this procedure will also be necessary if we are to withdraw privileges Root and again have access to the automatic updates direct from Google.

Here I had two paths or two books a lot like an easier and one that worked . The easiest basically do not need Goldcard. I advise trying first to make this straightforward procedure if the author could perhaps work with you and save you some steps, the manual Cyanogem own says nothing of Goldcard.

In both cases we must first file DREAIMG.nbg RC29 (U.S.) [Link1] [Link2] if you have an appliance or American RC7 (UK) [Link1] [Link2] if you have a European device, unzip the file and put DREAIMG.nbh the file to your microsd card from your G1. Do not rename the file, the file name has to be DREAIMG.nbh

The procedure without Goldcard just switched off the device, press and hold the button to take photo and power button.

Bootloader It will connect in recovery mode, in my case I received the error 00028002 (not allow) and returned to the screen of the rainbow. I have checked the message and found that it meant that my CID was wrong, this error also happened to me once with the Goldcard but I think I must have done some mistake in time to copy the number of CID, for the second time worked. In the comments of the manual also has a user who received an error message but simply formatting the SD, and placing the file DREAIMG.nbh worked, is one possibility.

To exit this screen you can dial by pressing the Menu + + End, in my case I was forced to remove the battery and USB cable as this combination was not working.

Downgraden_2 Downgraden_1 If you run these two screens will appear next, the first asking to push the power button to start the process. Care for your cell phone battery does not run out this procedure because it can be to defeat the device. If managed istalar will not be necessary to mount the Goldcard, and the device will be in version 1.0.

Synchronizing Outlook with Google Android and caled

Finally an official way to sync Outlook with the company's Google Calendar to my mobile. I've used some programs to do this, but the latter stopped working when the company upgraded to Office 2007.
With the free tool from Google Calendar Sync you can synchronize Outlook with Google Calendar even in Android smartphones (like T-Mobile G1 or HTC Vodafone Magic).
The tool runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista and works with both Outlook 2003 and with 2007. You can download Google Calendar Sync here.
Once you have downloaded the program enters the data with your Google Account and select option 2-Way Sync to sync both accounts.
Tip of the site www.go-android.de

PS As detailed in the post:
Google Apps Sync for Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft responds to warning about bug in the tool is better to upgrade the application, although I have not had problems.

Review HTC Dream (T-Mobile G1) with Google's new mobile Android

thumbnail
Finally launched the new cell phone with Google's Android operating system here in Germany, just months after U.S. release.
For some time I was looking to buy a smartphone, but I did not want to be an iPhone from Apple.
My first impressions are very good, especially with regard to hardware, I can say that:
- It is beautiful, especially the black
- The keyboard is comfortable to type.
- There appears to be very sensitive to risk, alias comes with a plastic protection for the screen and a small bag.
- The screen has almost the same size as the Iphone, missing only a few mm, the resolution is great, and the touch works very well.
- To aid navigation still has the scroll.
- The camera is great, 3.2MP high focus.
- Bluetooth is stereo (I'm going to buy a headset for that)
- The only thing I did not like was the position of the headset, because with them online is bad typing.

But for the new operating system Android I think the numbering is wrong, this version should not be here to 1.1 and yes to (0.alguma thing), has many things that are still unfinished, but will certainly improve a lot in the next months, major flaws:
- Has no way to turn off the internet and it downloads even with no applications running and apparently with the update off.
- No task manager, so it is not possible to know what is running.
- Still does not support bluetooth stereo
- No bookmark in the browser, but Chrome is better than the native Opera.
But some things surprised me, like:
- Integration with my Google account, he brought my calendar and contacts automatically and now I have Gmail contacts who were in the Sim-Card.
- Changing the photo of the contact in Gmail (Web site) that picture appears when the person calling. Directly it is not possible for the picture on contact.
- Quantity of good, free programs in the Android Market.
- Looks very pretty, with transition effects and transparency.
- Very fast in responding to any command.
- Intuitive, but you must learn what changes are made when you click the item and if he keeps clicked, including being able to copy and paste with ease.

For now this is, I test the programs I downloaded and put a resume in the coming days.

Testing the direct posting of G1

This is only a test to see if it is possible, post directly from my new smartphone, the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream).
The keyboard is not so bad, but I still need to get used to typing on a keyboard so small.
At least now I have no more excuses for not posting.
